Excursions

The excursions are an integral part of the program as they provide cultural experiences and opportunities to explore the other regions of Spain. The teachers and the director go along on these trips so that students can carry on practicing their Spanish but in a more authentic and casual way. Here are some typical destinations:

Segovia
La Granja De San Ildefonso - Avila

We leave at 9:00 in the morning for this full day excursion. We go directly to Segovia where upon arriving we visit the very famous Roman Aqueduct (one of the best preserved in the world) as well as the Alcazar. On the way to the Alcazar we walk the narrow streets of Segovia and enjoy the various historical buildings, churches and other monuments. Lunch is in the woods close to the royal palace, Summer residence of the royal families. Here we visit the gardens famous for their spectacular fountains. On the way back to Salamanca we visit Avila and its walls. Arrival time: 8:00 PM.

La Alberca
Pena de Francia - Ciudad Rodrigo

departure is at 10:00 AM. We cross the plains of Salamanca with groves of trees, toros bravos, sunflower fields, etc. We arrive at Ciudad Rodrigo, famous since Roman times, to view its conserved walls, main square, cathedral, castle, noble houses, palaces, etc. From there we go to a shrine on a mountain top with an impressive height of 1700 meters. From there we have a spectacular panoramic view of the surrounding region. We then descend toward the town of La Alberca where we'll enjoy a refreshing swim at a local outdoor pool and a leisurely walk in this historic town that has conserved its unique popular architecture and its way of life. There you will find unique gifts and regional foods. Return to Salamanca at 8:00 PM for dinner.

Zamora
Cuevas del Perdigon

We leave at 5:00 in the afternoon and go straight to Zamora, a city that combines the historical with the modern. We'll walk its narrow street and enjoy the unique architecture of this charming city. At about 8:00 PM we go toward Perdigon to visit its wine caves. These caves have been excavated at great depths where wine is stored at cool temperature. Many of these caves have been converted to restaurants that serve everything grilled: local sausages, and ribs, salad, bread, and desert (all you can eat). Wine is also served. Return to Salamanca between 11:00 PM and 12:00AM for some karaoke at a local cafe.

Other trips at extra cost may include:
Madrid/Toledo with an overnight stay in Madrid, where we'l visit the Prado, the Royal Palace, Plaza de Espana, Puerta del sol, El Retiro park, Plaza Mayor, and have dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe. In Toledo we'll see la Iglesia de San Tome with the famous painting by El Greco: The burial of Count Orgaz, the cathedral, by Alcazar, the Demasquean Jewelry outlet, etc.

A day at the beach in Portugal: We'll travel by bus to this Portuguese beach resort of Figueira da Foz. Departure from Salamanca at noon and arrive at our destination late afternoon where we'll enjoy dinner and a relaxing evening, as well as a 3 star hotel where we'll spend the night. Following breakfast we spend the day at a sandy beach across from the hotel. Return to Salamanca at about 5:00 PM and arrive in time for late supper and an evening of disco.
